Loukman Ali is a renowned graphic designer and cinematographer. Him being good in art during his high school inspired him to become a cinematographer and a graphic designer as he was looking for a better way to draw and present his imagination in softcopy which later forced him to learn 3D tactics.
His favourite thing about being a cinematographer is that he doesn’t have to wear a suit and shoes to go to work. He adds that when you are not working with a rigid client, you freely do what you want.
In his field of work he is inspired by Israel Denis, Sasha Vybz and Addmaya, however in this he doesn’t look up to only one person, he also looks up to the people that inspire his role models.
Loukman has worked on many big projects e.g. Project 10 and other projects some of which can’t pronounce their names. As a creative, he sees things differently and creates solutions in a unique way.
However lack of authority to dictate the flow of work in the film industry and most of the editors are music video editors therefore you have to do everything by yourself as the available music editors don’t know the art of doing film. He urges establishment of a clear system and copyright to enable the industry make money, and employ more youth.
His advice to creative in the film industry is to watch movies to know what the market needs, professionalise in one field and to do more research so as to make yourself better.
