Donald Mugisha is a Ugandan filmmaker and founder member of pan-african filmmaking collective, Yes! That’s Us.
He started Deddac Uganda, a digital video production company in 2001 which was one of the first production companies to service Uganda’s burgeoning music industry.
From 2006-2008, he was Uganda’s MTVBase Talent & Artist representative before turning his attention to narrative filmmaking.
Mugisha’s first full-length feature film Divizionz (2008) as Director and Cinematographer, was selected in the Forum Section of the 2008 Berlinale International Film Festival in Berlin, Germany. Divizionz won BEST EDIT IN A FILM, and the SPECIAL JURY AWARD at the 2008 Africa Movie Academy Awards. It also won BEST DIRECTOR, BEST AFRICAN FILM, and BEST MUSIC SCORE at the 2008 Kuala Lumpur International Film Festival.
On his second feature “Yogera” (2010) which premiered at Goteborg International Film Festival and screened at Rotterdam International Film Festival, he was the Director and Cinematographer .
He also collaborated on a film through CPH:Dox Lab with Danish Filmmaker, Kasper Bisgaard called “The Kampala Story”(2011).
Shujaa (2012), a film set in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, written and directed by Adam Kasale was a co-production between Deddac Uganda and Afronode
He was a co-writer and co-director on the film “The Boda Boda Thieves” (2015) which he co-produced with South Africa’s Switch Films, Germany production company, Augenschein and Hot Suns a Kenyan production company.
Wife material (2018) was another film set in Tabora, Tanzania, written and directed by Adam Kasale and Cinematography by Donald Mugisha. It was a co-production between Deddac Uganda and SisiSWAHILI.
He was the Cinematographer on the film N.S.I.W.E (2020) produced by Daphne Ampiire, Robert Nyanzi and Roger Matelja Mugabirwe and directed by Roger Matelja Mugabirwe.
He has been a Creative Director for Season 1 & 2 of Prestige TV series that aired on PEARL MAGIC PRIME on DSTV Channel 148.
