Mathew Nabwiso wears so many hats as an actor, film director and film producer. He went through Namasagali College, a formerly good performing Arts school in Uganda where he was inspired to become an artist. As a Ugandan film makers of this generation with a vision to change lives of the people in the he country.
After auditioning for my first acting gig for a feature film “Battle of the Souls” in 2006, he was taken through a crush actors’ training under Matt Bish the film Director at Bish films. This gave him an idea to start the Nabwiso Films Company with his wife as a means to create jobs. With every opportunity that knock at your doorstep, a new challenge bundles with it but how one handles it tells the difference.
Through his journey of transition from a music career to an acting career, he has faced some challenges along the way as a director with the lack of professionalism which is costly in terms of time and money. These are one of the major setbacks in the film industry with productivity levels affecting the specified time frame and budget.
The challenges facing the film industry has made it dwindle for a long period of time with lots of copyright issues, the labor unions standing in for the industry have improved less on the many challenges facing the artists. The distributions levels are catastrophic with people in the industry trying to outcompete each other instead of embracing their roles effectively and efficiently.
Mathew advises the upcoming creative minds to produce more content that’s marketable both locally and internationally because only quality attracts the audiences. Humbleness, and accepting criticism where necessary will help them learn more ad develop their careers.
